Having resided in this beach-side community for a number of years, this young family was keen to stay in the same area but looking for a larger house to suit their growing needs. So after selling their property, they purchased a rundown beach shack for its ideal location only a few blocks away and knocked it down to build their dream home.
Architecturally designed and featuring low maintenance, this home was designed with the owners’ busy lifestyle in mind. Being a small block facing east/west, the challenge was to minimise the use of land and capitalise on the eastern sea breezes.
Downstairs is open plan with large stacker doors at the front of the living area leading out to a seamless undercover entertainment area facing north/east. The private fully tiled pool features frameless glass to compliment an indoor-outdoor flow making it an entertainers dream.
A media room, large laundry, powder room and kids play/TV room can also be found on the first level. Not to mention the huge kitchen which is sure to impress featuring stone bench tops, under slung sink, 2pac cupboards and a wine fridge larger than many home refrigerators.
Upstairs you’ll find four generous sized bedrooms. The master bedroom includes ensuite and walk-in-robe and the walk-in-robe speaks for itself. Double hanging rails make full use of space and there’s even custom made shelving to cater for the owners’ shoe collection.
The design of this house created large spans and cantilevers requiring the creative use of block work, steel and timber to ensure an aesthetically pleasing finish. This property benefits from a wide variety of materials including rendered block work, colorbond and hardy’s linear board. The extensive use of glass and aluminum takes full advantage of natural light and provides that open airy feel we all love. Inside, the clean lines of the walls and ceilings are contrast by the use of natural stone tiles, high quality fittings and black butt timber flooring.
The entire home takes advantage of high-tech C-bus home automation, fully ducted A/C and a video intercom security system to greet visitors.
Award: This home was awarded 2009 HIA/CSR Gold Coast & Northern Rivers Custom Built Home $1-$2 million – Finalist
